What you’ll be doing day‑to‑day
A Senior Audit Manager in a mid‑market practice is both a technical leader and a people leader. Your role blends audit delivery, client management, coaching, risk management and strategic input. Typical responsibilities include:
Audit Delivery & Technical Leadership
- Leading multiple audit engagements simultaneously, from planning through to completion.
- Setting audit strategy, scoping work, assessing risk areas and ensuring appropriate audit responses.
- Reviewing complex areas such as revenue recognition, impairment, group consolidations, financial instruments and going concern assessments.
- Ensuring audits comply with ISA (UK), ethical standards, firm methodology and regulatory expectations.
- Providing clear, high‑quality technical review notes and ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
- Overseeing group audits, coordinating component auditors and managing reporting timetables.
Client Relationship Management
- Acting as point of contact for senior client stakeholders, including CFOs, FDs and Audit Committees.
- Building long‑term, trusted relationships by providing insight, challenge and commercially relevant advice.
- Presenting audit findings, key judgements and recommendations in a clear, confident and credible manner.
- Identifying opportunities to add value through sector insight, emerging risks, regulatory changes or process improvements.
People Leadership & Coaching
- Managing, coaching and developing audit teams on‑site and remotely.
- Providing real‑time feedback, supporting exam progression and helping team members build confidence and capability.
- Leading by example in promoting audit quality, professional scepticism and a culture of continuous learning.
- Supporting resource planning and contributing to recruitment and talent development initiatives.
Quality, Risk & Compliance
- Ensuring all engagements meet the firm’s quality standards and regulatory expectations.
- Managing engagement budgets, timelines and profitability while maintaining audit quality.
- Escalating significant risks, technical issues or independence matters appropriately.
- Contributing to internal quality reviews, methodology updates and audit transformation initiatives.
Practice & Strategic Contribution
- Supporting the growth of the audit practice through networking, proposals and thought leadership.
- Contributing to sector initiatives, internal training, methodology development or audit innovation projects.
- Playing an active role in shaping the culture of the team and wider firm.
What you’ll bring
- ACA/ACCA/ICAS qualified (or equivalent).
- Strong experience managing audit engagements within a professional services environment.
- Proven ability to supervise, coach and develop junior team members.
- Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, ISA (UK) and financial reporting requirements.
- Awareness of regulatory developments, market trends and emerging risks.
- Ability to work proactively, manage competing priorities and communicate confidently with senior stakeholders.
- A commitment to audit quality, professional scepticism and continuous improvement.
